Week Twelve - 4th - 10th April

This is the last week.

This week we finished uploading all the content into Flash which we then uploaded into Dreamweaver and made final touches such as:
- The font, we are now using Monotype Corsiva for most of the text
- The size, when we inserted the Flash file into Dreamweaver it was very large on the monitor, taking up the whole screen with a scroll button. We used a bit of code which ensures that when the web page loads then it will automatically get rid of any toolbars which made the screen smaller and made the actual Flash file smaller
- The index page, we created an index page which means that now we have links to all of our groups blogs, a link to the actual finalised project and also a proposal on the index page. Again we used Monotype Corsiva font for this.
- General aesthetics, such as the way in which some of the Polaroids bounced on the page. We picked out some which we were not happy with and changed them to move in a way which looked better, also making sure that all the layers were correctly positioned so that the images we wanted to be on top were actually on top.

We then burnt everything to a disk and handed it in.
Finito.

Week Eleven - 28th March - 3rd April

The audio track which I am going to use for the Timbuk2 piece is a song by the Black Keys called I Got Mine.
This week I have edited this track using Audacity, inserted it into Final Cut Pro and finalized it so it is ready to be imported into Flash.

Here is the audio track I edited using Audacity:

This is the final piece for Timbuk2 I created using Final Cut Pro:

Week Ten - 21st - 27th March

I have selected some photographs from a night which is called Sink Ships which takes place at Timbuk2. I am going to produce a similar version of the Thekla piece I created and then we can use this on our website as some content for the venue Timbuk2.

Here is one image I will use:

With this image I have simply cropped it and made the image size roughly the same using Photoshop. When inserting this into Final Cut Pro, I will use the beats from the audio track as an indication as to when to change from image to image and then it will seem as if the man is moving forward.

Week Nine - 14th - 20th March

This week I have been selecting the final video clips to use for the final Croft content.
After doing this I have arranged them on the timeline with some careful editing skills and produced this final piece which will accompany The Croft Polaroid:

Week Eight - 7th - 13th March

This week I have continued making the Temple Circus video but have mainly been focusing on the audio track. The main problem seems to be ways in which to jump from one song to the next.
Ways to do this I have come up with so far have been:
- Use applause to fade one song out and hte next in
- Use speech from the band, some of which I have repeated such as Andy from Temple Circus saying "Dance" which I have repeated twice, and I might add a third. Florence also says "Cover" so I could use this to jump to one of their covers.

Week Seven - 28th Feb - 6th March

This week I filmed the band Temple Circus at the Croft. I recorded more than enough footage so I can choose the best parts. I am going to make the audio track first in Final Cut Pro by deleting the visual footage which accompanies it and adding some visuals which I think would go better.
First I will seperate the footage into subclips though to become more organised. Below is an example of some footage which I took:

Week Six - 21st - 27th Feb

Presentation feedback ideas:

Instead of using regular guide ideas such as events which are coming up, we have discussed that we would like to use something slightly different. We have decided to go with the theme of events which you have missed.
Running with this idea we are thinking of using little pop-up bubbles which only appear on mouse over, but give a little detail of the venue.

Next week I am going to film a gig at The Croft so Pete is making a Polaroid for the venue, uploading it to Flash and making it making and I will film and then make another short film in Final Cut Pro.

For inspiration I have been watching music videos and one which really stuck in my mind was the Magistrates music video for the song 'Make This Work'.

I think this music video is filmed in a very imaginative way and I could easily recreate this idea using Temple Circus by filming from 4 different angles at the same time (by using four different cameras). However, I will have to find a crew to do this with me as I cannot leave any of the cameras unattended.

Week Five - 14th - 20th Feb

This week in the seminar we learnt how to use the audio editing programme Audacity. After getting to grips with the programme I have made my own track using a song by The Greenhornes. I made this track for the Thekla content:

After completing this I merged the final images and audio with the programme Final Cut Pro and this was the final production:

We are going to incorporate this video into our presentation next week as the prototype.

Week Four - 7th - 13th Feb

This is another plan which we made this week. The first drawing is of our main web page, underneath this is a plan of who is going to get what content and then our plan for our presentation which is due in on the 22nd Feb.

This week I have also been working on my Thekla content for the website. I have chosen photos and started editing them in Photoshop. The image below is an example of this:
I have cropped this photo, edited some of the colours and also cut out the main guitarist. I am going to move him slightly, just as the Look magazine advert did, so it looks like he is moving to the audio track which I will create in future weeks.

Week Three - 31st January - 6th Feb

New ideas/ changes to the project:

We have decided to use a photo montage incorporating Polaroids instead of a cartoon map. The Polaroids will be of places in Bristol, mainly of the venues we are going to get content for our website from.

By using the first blank Polaroid we have started to create our own Polaroids from images we have collected. We have also added logos such as the second picture.

The map will predominantly be made up of areas we’ve taken photos / videos of. For example, one area will have one event. The events will either be shown through the use of still images or recorded audio and visuals.

As the user will be able to click on a venue and discover it through the content we are providing it is almost like a sort of virtual reality in the way that even though the user is not in the venue, they may feel like they have a sense of place whilst interacting with our website.

This look magazine advert is a series of still images which change in time with the music. I could recreate this with one of the venues I have chosen to use, such as Thekla:

In the advert the above image appears to move as the people's faces become closer together. However this is just a series of still images taken from the same angle and quickly edited to make the people move closer. I could use this technique in one of my own productions.

We also discussed the websites future and how it could be used. We decided that it could be updated with new content on a regular basis so we might want to include some text which says: 'next week/ time...' with some information of what is coming up.

As for navigation the Polaroids of the venues will have links to the content we are providing on that particular venue. We are still discussing how this content will come up, whether it is going to be in a pop-up or if it will link to another page for each of the seperate contents.

Week Two - 24th - 30th January

This is a plan we made today.

It is the outline for the main web page.

Since last week there have been a few changes/new ideas:
- The text will change with the type of event, for example we would use graffiti if we use a Banksy event.
- We are going to use an animated man who will move around each page. The character will change with the event. Running with the Banksy event, the man would be dressed in a hoody.
- The plan also includes some venues where we can find events to get the content for our website.

Week One - 17th - 23rd January

Ideas for our project:

Including music
Possibly a music video
Including art

Using a website for navigation - main page is a map of Bristol incorporating cartoons
Possible places on the cartoon map:
- Petes house - have a music video for Dynamik (Pete)
- Motel and shops - fashion tips
- Radio (UWE Frenchay campus) - include up and coming bands and links to live lounges

The Bestival website is a cartoon map similar to the idea we have in mind except ours will be based on Bristol. We can use simple Flash animation to move around parts of our map.
